This is a example of how I would typically approach doing a pocket page layout, when it comes to starting a project I typically break up my photos in to the days or the sections that I took them in or that make sense together. For this project I broke them up into days then into the groups or people that were performing and the events of the days. This then means I can have like photos together and work in a certain amount of pages per event etc. I figure out what photos I want in pockets and if there are any that I want to pick out for full page layouts. I have found that 12x12 means I can show off my pictures a lot better and I feel that I can have a good balance of filler cards alongside them.
I like to include ephemera collected from the day where ever I can and I found that this programme of the festival was made up of cards that fit exactly into 3x4 pockets :) this really amused me for some reason haha I like when things work out so nicely its like they knew.
The style that I have seemed to have settled on for the moment with these layouts its a combination of photos and fillers cards, I like to sew on the pics that I feel I want to stand out a little bit or I mount them on some card to give them a white border. I know I could do this in an app or something before I print them pictures but I don't really know which ones I like to do this with until I start a layout so I leave it till then and just mount them on some card.
I also like to use texture on my photos to give them a bit of interest and to bring them layout all together. For this project I chose to use a different stencil on each different layout or each double spread, I use a little bit of texture paste through a small part if the stencil just to give pattern on the edge of a picture. I then use a combination of stamps, word stickers, wood veneer and die cuts to decorate the photos and tell the stories of the days events.
